The tension is adjusted on the console simply by pressing a button. This moves the rare-earth magnets towards the flywheel to increase resistance. The combination of these magnets and perfectly balanced flywheel (with most of its weight concentrated in the outer perimeter) help create the smoothest elliptical feel.
